2000-2010: Working Together To Build Communities

In the last decade, the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth has found success in collaborative efforts to help the Y reach more communities while making the best use of its resources.  In 2000, the Benbrook Community Center/YMCA opened as a joint venture between the city of Benbrook and the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth.  The center, which was built by the city using tax-funded bonds,  is operated as a branch YMCA and serves as a gathering spot for the entire community.  In 2010, it celebrated its 10th year with a renovation and expansion of the fitness center, group exercise classrooms and child watch areas.

In 2006, the Hood County YMCA opened in Granbury as a partnership with the county and hospital districts.  The branch serves more than 4,500 men, women and children with 70 group exercise classes weekly.  Some of the classes are taught off site from the popular branch due to overcrowding.

Another collaborative effort involved the YMCA and the city of Fort Worth.  In 2008, that collaboration culminated with the Northpark YMCA opening, also a joint partnership in which city bonds funded the construction of the building and the YMCA underwrites the operations.
